At a meeting of the Melbourne Board of Health, the Chairman strongly urged the necessity for concerted action on the part of all the colonies for the establishment of federal quarantine stations at Albany and Thursday Island. It was decided to again ask the New Zealand Government to take action in the matter. The half-yearly report of (he Block 10 mine shows a net profit— after allowing for depreciation— of Lll,ooo. The Premier has wired to Mr Reid suggesting the A«euts General should choose two of their number as repi'esentatives of the colonies at the Pacific Cable Conference, and asks him to forward the suggestion totheother colonies. Sydney, November 21. Fine weather greeted the arrival of Governor Hampden. The main thoroughfares of the city were gaily -decked with bunting and ferns and every vantage point was thronged with sightseers. The Judge in directing the jury in the Sheridan case, pointed out though in ordinary cases of murder wilfulness must be shown, in this case there was a special defination. Sheridan was charged with maliciously causing the death of a young woman, but nulice had special significance in this charge. If the jury were satisfied the offence had been committed recklessly, wantonly, or with obvious danger to life, they must bring in a verdict of murder. The Agent-General has advised the Premier of Mr Chamberiain's approval of the appointment of a Commission to enquire into the Pacific cable question. Mr Reid was asked to communicate with the Premiers of the other colonies, which he immediately did. Last night he received a communication from Mr Seddon asking him to suggest the course to be pursued by the colonies interested in electing delegates. Mr Cook, Post-master-General, states the Commission scheme is the outcome of general representations made by the Premier through the Agents - General. He is highly pleased at Mr Chamberlain taking the matter up. Brisbane, Noy. 21. A Bill has been introduced into the Legislative Asssmbly authorising the issue of a further L 1,000,000, 000,000 of Treasury bills. ___ ____
