Christcburch, Novr. 21, At a meeting of the Medical Society it it was resolved to petition Government to erect a public morgue in Cbristcburcb, the Society considering the holding of post in or t ems in hotels and other crowded localities highly injurious to the public health. At the Supreme Court today Walter Ullmer was found guilty of housebreaking and sentenced to four year's imprisonment. The new trial of Benjamin Hale, charged with breaches of the Bankruptcy Act, is fixed lor November 29. This Day. A fire broke out in the engine room of Johnston's blacksmith's shop at Rangiora this morning and the premises were partly destroyed and gutted. Insurance, L2OOO on stock, L 550 on machinery tools, L 350 on building in the Alliance office. The loss is not yet estimated. Wellington, Novr. 21. The Midland Railway Arbitration Court met this morning, but adjourned till 10 a.m. on Monday, when the real business- wilL begin. The Italie.n warship Chrisioforo Colombo sailed for Auckland thia afternoon. The cargo ex- ship Pleione, which encountered such severe weather on the voyage from Liverpool, is turning out in excellent condition. News has been received of the death in Melbourne of th,e Hon. {George Buckley, formerly partner in the Christchurch branch of Dalgety and Co.. This Day. A now recreation ground is to be provided. The Council has contracted with a brick making firm to remove the clay from the reserve at the top of Willis I street so as to leave a level space of over three acres which will be turfed. Auckland, Nov. 21. A meeting of the Catholic clergy of the Diocese of Auckland was held to-day at St Patrick's Cathedral, Archbishop Redwood presiding, for the purpose of designating the names of three priests to be presented to the Bishop of the Province of New Zealand prior to communication to the Holy Set?, and the names of candidates for the office of Coadjutor Bishop, with the right of future succession to the present Bishop of Auckland, Bishop Luck, whose state of he? hh renders such a step desirable. The result of the clergy selection was:— Dignissimus, Rev G. M. Lenchan ; Dignior, Very Rev. P. O'Reilly Dignus, Rev. J. Hackett. Dunedin. November 21. At the Magistrate's Conrt, Horace and Benjamin Eett pleaded guilty of selling an excursion railway ticket, arid were fined to the extent of a no.minal penalty.
