BUBEAR DEFEATED BY HANLON. THE METRIC SYSTEM. DEATH OF SIR H. PONSONBY. (Per Press Association.^ London, November 21. At a meeting of the London Bank of Australia Mr Garrick, chairman, said the management expenses were i#o,ooo per year below those of the old Bank, and there was eyery reasonable hope of a steady gradual improvement in the Australian business. Haulon won the first heat of the single sculling championship, defeating Bubear by a length. Mr R. J. Balfour, replying to the Chamber of Commerce, *aid ifc was difficult to make a, metric system compulsory, and suggested the great industries should initiate it voluntarily. Obituary Sir H.
