(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, NOV. 14. Heavy rain fell early this morning, and it was feared that it would seriously in* terfere with the people's day at the A. and P. Show, but towards noon the sun shone out brightly and although the day was not generally observed as a holiday crowds flocked to the ground. The attendance was estimated at quite 7000, including Lord and Lady Glasgow, and Hon. Mr Seddon and Hon. Mr Carroll. Visitors were present from all parts of the Island in large numbers, while the Middle Island was not badly represented. W. C Buchanan won the championship in Southdowns. A. McHardie's Shorthorn bull won first and champion in his class. In some of the horse classes there was poor competition. In thoroughbreds Mr Tompsitt's Imported horse Laogdalo (by His Grace— Misfortune) won the first and championship. McKenzie's Hindoo (by Ealipha) was first in weight carrying hacks. Mcßae's Ahitangi was first in light hacks, and Strang's Merry Maiden in ladies' hacks. In the leaping match, hnnters' style, Timothy was first, and in the steeplechase style Canute was first. In the polo competitions, Mr Baker, of Palmerston North, scooped the pool. The jumping to-day was generally admitted to be the best of its kind ever seen on the ground. The following awards were obtained by exhibitors from the West Coast district at the Wellington Show : — Purebred Jersey bull, any age — F. E. Watson's Ist and 2nd. Boar, any age (Berkshire), S. B. Lancaster's Ist; J. B. Forster-Pratt's (imp.) 2nd. Boar, over 6 and under 9 months - S. B. Lancaster's 2nd. Breeding sow, any age — 8. B. Lancaster's Ist and 2nd- Sow, over 6 and under 9 months— S. B. Lancaster's Ist and 2nd. Sow under 6 months— S. B. Lancaster's Ist and 2nd. In the Hereford class Mr G. Wheeler, of Stanway, secured second prize for a bull calved since June 30th, 1893 ; second for a heifer calved since June 30th, 1892 ; second for a heifer calved since Juae 80th, 1894. In each case the first prize was secnred by Mr Jas. Stuckey. The Campbelltown Co-operative Dairy Company secured (with the Midhurst Dairy Company) third honors for their butter.
