The Borough Council will meet on Thursday next. The Pohangina Connty Council will meet on Saturday next. Messrs Gorton and Son hold a sale at their Waituna yards to-morrow. \ meeting of the directors of the Feilding Permanent Building Society was held this afternoon. A replace advertisement appears in another column from Mr J. H. Richardson, saddler, of Birmingham. Captain Edwin wired at 12.17 to day : N.E. to N. and W. gale with rain after 12 hours from now ; glass fall. Mr C. Carr held a fairly successful sale at Mr E. Mills' residence yesterday, I of household furniture and effects. A general meeting of members of the Feilding Bowling Club will be held at 8 p.m., to-morrow evening, in the Denbigh Hotel. A special general meeting of members of the Feilding Football Club will be held in the Manchester Hotel, at 7.30, to-morrow evening. Captain Fairchild goes Home in a couple of months to superintend the construction of the new steamer for the New Zealand Government. At Tindall's, Coolgardie, tbere is a great scarcity of mechanics and carpenters are asking £1 per day. Galvanised iron is held for i"4O a ton. We have to acknowledge receipt of a complimentary ticket to the Apiti Bijou Amateur Christy Minstrel entertainment on Friday, Bth instant, in Guy's Hall, Apiti. The golf match Palmerston North v. Wanganui, played on the Wanganui ground on Saturday afternoon, resulted in favour of the Wanganui Club by two holes. The bankruptcy of Robert Hally, boardinghouse keeper, Feilding, is announced. A meeting of creditors will be held in the Court House on Tuesday, 12th instant. The funeral of the late George Watts will leave the dwelling of the parents, George and Jane Watts, Denbigh street, on Wednesday (to-morrow) at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Notice of application is given for the transfer of the license of the Manchester Hotel, from Mr Horace Bastings to Mr W. T. Watts, at the meeting of the Licensing Committee to be held on the 10th of December. The Tax Department is about to bring into operation the provisions of the Act passed this session providing for the licensing of non-resident agents travelling on behalf of tirrns outside the colony. The license fee is j£so. The Druids Grand Lodge of New Zealand has appointed Bro. T. Funston, P.G.M., District President for No. 4 district, which includes Bishop Lodge (Wanganui), Mountaineers (Birmingham), and Morgan (Marton). A conference of clergy and laity will be held in the Assembly Rooms this evening, when papers will be read and discussed on the subjects of " Religious instruction in schools " and " Our duty to bush settlers." The meeting will be presided over by the Bishop of Wellington. The people of the Apiti Block are going in for a lively time of it on Friday. The Good Templars are helding a picnic on the Sports' Ground (Mr McKenzie's), then there is the Minstrel entertainment in Guy's Hall in the evening, which is to be followed by a dance. Given a good day the settlers will be sure to enjoy themselves. On Friday evening last Mrs Irwin kindly gave a dance in aid of the prize fund of the Beaconsfield school. The evening was very stormy, but in spite of this drawback there was a very fair attendance. Dancing was kept up till about four o'clock. During the evening songs were given by some of the gentlemen present. The proceeds of the dance, amounting to £% were placed in the hands of the chairman. The supervisor of physical education to the Education Board will visit the following centres during the month of November. Teachers of surrounding districts able to attend are requested to be at their centres by 10 o'clock : — Foxton, Tuesday, November sth ; Palmerston (Campbell street), Wednesday, 6th; Feilding, Thursday, 7th; Sandon, Friday, Bth ; Birmingham, Tuesday, 12th ; Huntervill, Friday, 15th. At a meeting of insurers of Oamaru the report of a committee appointed at a previous meeting was considered. The report recommended, as a means of breaking down the combination of insurance companies, that all insurances should be effected in three offices, viz, the Royal, Commercial Union, and North German. The report was adopted, and an agreement to this effect will bo taken round for signature. Cameron's Glenmore ; C Mclvor's Timidy. — Standard. , The young man George Stephens, who who was injured in a cart accident near Tawa Flat about three months ago, died in the Wellington hospital on Sunday night, where he has been under treatment ever since. It will be remembered that deceased was driving a cart for Messrs Thomson and Lewis, mineral water manufacturers, when the vehicle overturned, and Stevens, who fell underneath, was badly crushed. Deceased, who was only 25 years of age, was one of the survivors of the ill-fated Wairarapa. He was unmarried. The facts of the Hikutaia murder case for which Robert Darrah is at present in custody at the Thames are of a sensational nature. Darrah had three times had money stolen from his house while he was away at work, so he loaded a gun with ball cartridge, and placed it inside of his room in such a way that at the opening of the door it would discharge. On returning to his home last Tuesday evening, he found a Maori named Wi Taiti lying dead outside the door, having been shot through the left breast by the gun. Darrah, who is a single man, at once went to the Thames and surrendered to the police. The opening ceremony in connection with the new Loyal Rangitikei Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., at Mangaweka, took place on Friday evening last, in Mr J. Bacovich's new boardinghouse, and proved very successful. The Wanganui district was represented by the following officers:— Prov Grand Master Bro Relf {Palwerstpn), Prov Deputy Grand Bro A. W. Parser {Feilding), Prov Corresponding Secretary Pro J-Salek (Wanganui), and Past Frov (J.M. B,ro T. B,amber (Wanganui). Nineteen new members were initiated. The new officers were duly installed by Bro T. Bamber in a most impressive manner.
