The War Scare.

The Governor, speaking at the Londoners' Club, regarded it as an absolute necessity that, before all those present were dead, Australia would have to resist an attack, which it is impossible to do in its present state. For a great prosperous growing nation like this, with comparatively no army and navy, immunity in the event of war was not to be expected, and trained troops were necessary. Money must be spent liberally and well; though he trusted war was not near, they should be prepared.
