The Recent Fire in Wellington.
(Per_Press Association). Wellington, October 16. The report that a man perished in the fire is unfounded, it having tnrned out that he got out safely. Smith's restaurant where the fire originated was totally destroyed. It was owned by the Wellington Meat Export Company, and insured for £1000 in the Commercial and North British offices. Smith's goods were insured for £100 in the Manchester offie Beadman's hairdressing saloon, Ligg (fishmonger), and Murphy (tailor), owned by Messrs J. and H. Barber, were partially destroyed and insured for £400 in the New Zealand office. The stock in these premises was uninsured. Jenness and Co., jewellers — building, owned by Heath's estate, insured for £400 in the Norwich union ; stock and plant, valued at £2090, insured for £500 in Commercial Union ; stock only partially damaged. Weekly Herald offices — owned by J. and H. Barber, insured for £150 in the Commercial Union and North British ; contents damaged to the extent of £100. insured for £600 in Commercial Union, New Zealand and National. Bash's (Jenness and Co.) furniture for £100 in Commercial Union.
