Preston has receded to 100 to 5, but lie has been well backed for the Melbourne Cup at 1000 to 6 and 7. Delaware and Hopscotch are equal favorites for the Melbourne Cup at 100 to 8. Wallace, Preston and Admiral 1 00 to 7 . Auraria an d Trenchant 1000 to 5. Four to one is now the best offer for Auraria for the Derby*. Aquarius has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. Delaware aud Oxide left Sydney last night for Melbourne. The Trier executed a great gallop over one mile and three-quarters at Randwick yesterday, and is considered a certain starter for the Melbourne Cup. The Mentone Handicap resulted— Duhallow 1, Straban 2, Te Wbiti 3. As a result of this victory Mr Davis' colt has advanced to 100 to 4 for the Caulfield Cup. After a satisfactory gallop yesterday, Mr Oxenham accepted 5 to 1 in thousands that his colt Waterfall will beat Auraria in the V.R.C Derby. Melbourne, October 15. The Argus, commenting on the raid at Oxenham's, stigmatises the making of police raids in business hours on what are ostensibly business establishments, and the apprehension of all and sundry, as an unfair and pigheaded procedure.
