Eight Hours' Demonstration Sports.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, October 7. The eight hours' demonstration to-day was observed as a close holiday. The weather was splendid. \t the athletic carnival the fol lowing New South Wales champions were decided : — 100 Yards— Cartwright. Time, 10 7--10 th sees. Half-mile Flat —Griffin. Time, 2min 4 7Uoth' sees. -" Three-mile Walk— Goodwin. Timo 25min 2 4- sth sees. Mile Flat — Briggs and Thomas dead heat. Time 4min 47secs. 120 Yards Hurdles— Jones, 17 3-10 th sees. High Jump— Doyle (Victoria), sft 9in. He afterwards did sft lOin. Three mile Flat— Blake (Victoria), 16min 10 sees. Pole Jump— Doyle (Victoria) 9ft. 220 Yards Flat— Cartwright. Timo 22 4-sth sees. Throwing Hammer — Reid 75ft 9§in. Mile Walk— Goodwin. Time 7mm. 11 l-sth sees. 5-Mile Bicycle Championship of Australasia — Reynolds, Auckland 1, McDonald, Sydney, 2. The New Zealander made the pace from the jump and riding a magnificent race won by 350 yards, much to the surprise of the local men. Time, 12min 59 2-sth sees.
