Thc Feilding Masonic Lodge will meet on Monday next. The Borough Council meets on Thursday next. The directors of the Building Society met this afternoon. Messrs Gorton and Son hold a sale at their Waituna yards to-morrow. A social and dance will be given in aid of the Awahuri Public Library tomorrow evening. The Shooting Committee of the Manchester Rifles will meet in the orderly room tbis evening. It is stated that there are now over 50 brokers in and around the Auckland goldfields, all making a living. Burgoyne and Co. report that the imports of Australian wines into England for the seven months ending July last were 337,708 gallons, against 229,203 gallons for the corresponding period of 1894, showing an increase of 108,505 gallons. To-day Messrs Abraham and Williams advertise that on Thursday the 10th instant, they will sell at Paimerston N. under the instructions of the Public Trustee, administrator in the estate of J. S. The vital statistics of the Foilding district for this year to date are — Births, 135 ; deaths, 29 ; marriages, 16. Duriug 1894 to the same date they were— Births, 129 ; deaths, 17 ; marriages, 28. The birth rate is holding its own, but the bottom has fallen out of the marriage market. We may expect a resumption of the wedding festivities during this lovely weather. When the American line steamer New York arrived at New York lately, a paspassenger named Nystrom, who had travelled as a man, was found in reality to be a woman.
