The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1895. A HINT TO HORSE OWNERS.
. » Although " more honored in the breach than in the observance," there is in the Police Offences Act, ISS4, a provision which would, if rigidly enforced, put the owners of horses to some inconvenience. Section 3, subsection 21, " states that " Any person guilty of exposing in any public place (except in any fair or market lawfully appointed for that purpose) any horse or other animal for show, hire, or sale ; or shoes, bleeds, or dresses any horse in any public place, is liable to a penalty of five pounds." As the number of horses brought for exhibition on the occasion of the several stock sales at this time of the year is very great, and is increasing each succeeding season, in order to avoid clashing with " the powers that be," and thereby incurring expense and undergoing annoyance, we would suggest that a time ancl place be appointed by the several owners to hold horse parades in each centre. In Feilding there is attached to one of the saleyards a convenient paddock admirably suited for such a purpose, where the horses could be exhibited to the best advantage, ancl those persons interested have every opportunity given them of forming opinions on the respective merits of the animals without risk of any kind whatever. We have reason to believe that the clause in the Act referred to is about to be enforced in both Paimerston ancl Feilding, therefore we trust our timely warning will -be accepted.
