Complimentary Concert.
O — The Assembly Rooms were well filled last evening by an audience who attended to bid farewell to that popular vocalist, Mr F. W. Treseder, who is about to leave Feilding for the United States. A good programme was provided, and those present showed their appreciation by the" hearty applause which followed each item. The opening piece was an overture,' My Polly' waltz, by the Septet Club, composed of Miss Ross (violin), Mr F. G. Woollams (flute), Mr Scott (cornet), Mr H. Bilderbeck (bass viol), and Mr S. Moore (piano). Mr Treseder followed with the song 1 Tommy Atkins,' and gave • Dear me, is that possible ?' in response to an encore. The duet, c Life's dream is o'er,' by Misses L. and A. Roe, was nicely sung, and a verse repeated as an encore. Bliss L. Ross played the air ' Varie,' as a violin solo, and gives promise to become a favorite instrumentalist. The son?, 1 Who shall be king,' by Mr A. C. Matheson met the approval of the audience and* was loudly applauded. Mrs West sang • The Star of Bethlehem,' and Miss E. Roe • Old and new.' The flute solo 1 Swiss Air,' by Mr Woollams, was very sweet and he had to respond to an encore, for which he played ' Friar of orders grey,' another very pretty composition. The second part opeued with the overture ' Kenilworth,' b}' the Septet Club. The comic quartette' Pro phundo basso,' by Misses L. and A. Roe, and Messrs Treseder and Carty, evoked a considerable amount of applause, and a verse was repeated in response to an encore. The prettj' song, 'La Serenata,' by Mrs Macarthur, proved to be one of the best items on the programme, the violin obligato by Mr Dumaresq adding considerably to the effect. An .encore was demanded, and' Whisper and I shall hear' given in reponse. Mr Dumaresq played ' Hungarian dance,'as a violin solo, the execution of which proved him to be an acquisition to musical circles in Feilding, and he had to respond to an encore. Miss Diamond sang ' Fetters of gold' very nicely. Mr A. Eadc sang ' Shepherd's song,' from the cantata Merlin. Miss E. Bellve gave 'Ah 'che la naorte,' and Mr A. G. Carty sang 'The mighty Deep.' Mrs Prior's happy style in the song ' Needles and pins' resulted in her being encored,' The miller and the maid,' being given in response. Both Mrs Prior's songs were well rendered, and were among the best of the evening. Mr Treseder Avas encored for the song, ' Thou'rt passing hence,' and gave in response ' Monte Carlo,' in which he excelled himself with his free manner, and had to re-appear again, this time giving the amusing ' Bignall's medley.' This concluded the programme, and Mr T. Watson stepped in front of the stage and thanked the audience, on behalf of Mr Treseder, for their attendance that evening. During Mr Treseder's residence of twelve months here they had been able to show a decided appreciation of him, and he (Mr Watson) was sure everyone would join with him in wishing Mr Treseder every prosperity where he goes. The audience then sang the favorite old strain ' For he's a jolly good fellow,' and the concert was concluded with a verse of ' Auld Lang Syne,' by the company, lhe accompaniments were played by Mrs Macarthur, Misses N. Roe, Giesen, Macarthur, and Mr S. Moore.
