Wanganui Supreme Court.
f Per Press Association) Wanganui, Sep. 24. The Supremo Court sessions opened to-day, His Honor the Chief Justice presiding. The sittings promise to be the longest on record for Wanganui, there being 20 criminal cases, 4 divorce, and 11 civil. The Grand Jury returned true bills in all the cases but one, a charge of arson against a man named Smith. Henry Bailey and William Loft, charged with breaking and entering and stealing, the former pleaded guilty and the latter not guilty. Loft was convicted but the sentence was deferred to allow of enquiries being made before granting probation. Bailey was sentenced to 6 month's hard labor. Joseph Moore and Henry Jones pleaded guilty to forging and uttering, and both were admitted to probation, the former for 12, and the latter for 6, months. John Connor, on a charge of horse stealing, was allowed probation for 12 months, and J. Juggins, who pleaded guilty to a similar charge, was remanded to allow of enquiries being . made. W. Middleton, charged with house breaking, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months' hard labor. The Hurotere murder case, in which the half-caste, Wiri Kaahu, is charged with having murdered his wife, commences to-day.
