The Invercargill Murder Case.

(Per Press Association.) Invercargill, September 24. The trial of John Keown for the murder of Hugh Stewart at Balfour was commenced in the Supreme Court to-day, before Mr Justice Williams. Accused pleaded not guilty. Sir Robert Stout and Mr A. C. Hanlon are couductina his defence. Andrew Middlernass, the bailiff who brought Stewart with him to seize Keown'e horses, gave evidence that when they entered the ground's Keown advanced with a gun and threatened to shoot it they came further, and almost immediately fired, the charge striking Stewart on the side of his face and knocking him off his horse.
