The Colony's Mortgages.

An interesting return of mortgages re* gistered during the year ending 31st March last, has been laid on the table of tho House. The total was 9111, aggregating £4,858,766, and of these the interest on £995,400 was unspecified. Various rates of interest were charged on small sums— up to 40 per cent, which was registered against a £50 mortgage, and 22| per cent against £40 ; but 20 per cent was registered against £901, and 15 against £2435, and 12 and 12& against £1329 and £1590 respectively,
