The Duty on Boots and Shoes.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, Sept. 19 At a meeting of tbe delegates of the Boot Union Federation, it was resolved to send the following telegram to the Colon* ial Treasnrer : -•« We strongly urge that boots and shoes containing cardboard, composition or paper be charged a fixed duty per pair as well as 25 per cent ad valorem. This would not make the local articles any dearer as suggested by some mombers of the .House".
