Feilding Football Club's Concert.

• One of the most pleasant local con* certs held in Feilding, was given in the Assembly Rooms last evening in aid of the funds of the Feilding Football Club. The attendance was very fair, but not so large as might have been expected considering the fact that such a good programme was promised, the majority of local footballers being conspicuous by their absence although it was for their benefit the concert was arranged. As stated, all the items were of a high order, bat three of the gentlemen whose names appeared on the programme were unable to attend, and Mr Carty apologised to the audience, prior to commencing the concert, for their nonatten dance. The first item was a musical selection by Mr R. F. Haybittle's string band consisting of Messrs R. F. Haybittle and Scott (cornets), F. G. Woollams (flute), E. and A. Haybittle (violins), and G. Haybittle (piano) ; Mr Carty then sang the " Bedouin love song " ; the duet, "Oh! How sweet- the hunter's song," was given by Misses L. and A. Roe, whose voices blended very nicely and they responded to an encore by repeating a verse," ; Mr Treseder sang " Thursday " ; Miss Diamond sang, with flute obligate by Mr F. G. Woollams, Gounod's beautiful " Serenade " with taste and feeling, her enunciation being particularly good and she had to respond to an encore, for which she repeated a yerse ; Miss Shannon followed with the violin solo " Lucrezia Borgia," the execution of which roused the audience to a state of enthusiasm that an imperative encore was demanded, the applause being loud and prolonged ; Miss Mowlem was encored for the song 11 The flight of ages " ; Mr A. C. Matheson displayed a fine voice in his rendition of the song "Anchored," and in response to an encore gave " Vanity " which was even better than his first song. After a short interval the second part of the programme was opened with the comic quartette " Pro phundo basso" by Misses L. and A. Roe and Messrs Treseder and Carty ; this was a very good item and deservedly applauded, a verse being repeated in response to an encore ; Miss Giesen sang " Dear Heart " ; Mr H. E. Gunter was recalled the second time for his rendition of the pianoforte solo " Scherzo," the selections he played being amongst the best items of the evening. The piece given for the second encore was a " Minuet," composed by himself, and was exquisitely pretty. Miss N. Fry sang "Douglas Gordon," and in response to an encore repeated a verne ; this young lady possesses a very pleasing voiceand promises to be one of our most popular vocalists. Mr W. T. Grant was very good in the comic song "Four-'oss Sharrybang," and bad to respond to an encore, for which he gave 11 Wot cher " ; Miss E. Roe sang " The snow that husheth all " ; Mrs Macarthur sang " Say • Au Revoir ' not ' Good-bye," with violin obligate by Miss Shannon, the effect being appreciated by the audience, who demanded an encore, a verse being repeated in response ; Mr F. W. Treseder excelled himself in the comic song "Monte Carlo," and gave " E dunno where 'c are " as an encore. This brought a most enjoyable concert to a close. The accompaniments were played by Miss N. Roe, Mrs C&ldwell, Miss Giesen, Mrs Macarthur, Messrs. Gunter and Moore. During the interval Mrs Hastie provided refreshments for the performers, for which kindness the committee desire to thank her.
