SINKING OF THE PRINCE OSCAR. FOUNDERING OF THE BRIGANTINE ZENO. (Per Press Association.) Melbourne, Sept. 15 Arrived — the ship Dharwar, from London. After passing the Cape she picked up a boat containing several men belonging to the ship Prince Oscar, which a London cable recently advised was sunk by colliding with au unknown vessel. The unfortunate mariners had been in the boat for several clays, and suffered great hardships. The Dharwar signalled passing ships, by which those rescued were lorwarded to London. The boat picked up by the Dharwar contained the captain, first and secoud officers, carpenter, two seamen, and two boys of the Prince Oscar. Sydney, September 15. News has been received of the foundering of thebrigantine Zeno, bound from Newcastle to Wellington with 470 tons of coal, offJLord Howe Island, on the 6th instant, during a heavy gale when the vessel was 200 miles from the island. She sprang a leak, and the position being critical, as the water was rising fast, it was decided to make for the island. The crew worked splendidly, and, by great exertions, managed to keep the water down until within sight of Lord Howe. Ibe wind then fell dead calm, and the vessel tumbled about in a somewhat troublesome sea. As the water continued to gain, Captain Fry and his wife, along with a passenger and the crew, took to the boats, and shortly the vessel foundered within two miles of the land. The boat reached shore j safely. The occupants will be brought to Sydney on the next trip of the Birksgate. _______»
