Palmerston Hospital Board.
• The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Ravenhill (chairman), Goodbehere, Snelson, Ransom, W. Kendall, Saxon. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : — From Dr Macgregor, requesting returns of travelling expenses to members of Board, and of levy paid by local authorities in Board's district. From Mr D. Grant, forwarding cheque for £20 6s 6d, amount due for attendance while in hospital. Mr Grant paid a high tribute to the medical and nursing staff, and gave it as his opinion that no institution could be more economically conducted. From Dr Harris, Feilding, applying for appointment on medical staff. From Kiwitea County Council, forwarding levy of £157 10s. The Secretary submitted two schemes for the representation of contributing bodies on the Board, one providing for nine members and the other for seven. Mr Snelson expressed himself in favor of there being only seven members. Mr Goodbehere did not think nine members were too many for the representation of so large and important a district. lie suggested that each local body appoint one representative, with the exception of the Halcombe Town Board, which would be bracketed with the Feilding Borough Council. Messrs Kendall and Ransome were in favor of Mr Goodbehere's proposal. On the motion of Mr Goodbehere, it was resolved, That each contributing body be allowed one representative, with the exception of the Halcombe Town Board, which will be bracketed wiMi the Feilding Borough Council. The Secretary was authorised to proceed to Feilding to enquire into the case of William Cook. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Kendall, that no case of delirium tremens be admitted to the hospital, and that instructions be issued to that effect. The annual balance-sheet was read as follows : - • HOSPITAL ACCOUNT. Receipts — Voluntary subscriptions, .£9O lls 6d ; proceeds from sale of hospital reserves, £187 5s 4d ; contributions from local bodies, £1051 3s 2d; Government subsidy, £1112 7s lOd ; payments of patients, £272 4s 3d ; refund of funeral expenses, £2 6s. Total, £2715 18s Id. Disbursements —Repairs to hospital buildings, £51 0s sd ; maintenance of patients in Wanganui hospital, £113 Is i)d ; druga, surgery, and dispensary, .£l3l 0s «)d ; furniture and earthenware, 162 19s lOd ; bedding, £89 ss ; provisions, £390 14s 2d ; wines and spirits, £54 lls 2d ; firewood and lighting, £161 16s Id ; advertising, £16 15s 6d ; printing, £11 2s ; insurance, £16 14s 5d ; interest on overdraft, £47 7s 9d ; legal charges, £17 10s lOd ; stationery, £3 2s 9d ; members' travelling expenses, £41 5s ; salaries, £534 15s 2d ; grounds, £9 17s 3d ; cows, £14 ; washing £31 ; funerals, £16 2s; sewing, £5 12s 6d; telegrams and stamps, £10 lls Id ; miscellaneous, £5 3s 4d. Total, £1835 7s 9d. CHAKITABLE AID ACCOUNT. Receipts— Proportion of contributions from local authorities, £998 ; funeral expenses recovered, £4 17s 6d ; payments by patients, £70 14s 4d ; refund from Palmerston Borough Council, £2 ss. Total, £1,075 16s lOd. Disbursements — Burnham Industrial school, £138 15s 4d ; board and lodgings £100 15s ; Rotorua Sanatorium, £31 8s ; lodging " casuals," £7 lls 6d ; railway fares and travelling expense^ £9 18s lid ; rations, £249 149 8d ; rente, £4 5s ; clothing, £7 6s 3d ; medical expenses, £38 10s; funerals, £11 18s 6d ; salaries, £25 ; legal expenses, £15 18s 6d. Total, L 613 lla Bd. The disbursements include the suni of L 236 3s 2d refunded to local bodies in connection with affording local relief. The largest amount was that of the Manchester Road Board, L 95 lls, and none of the others exceeded L3O. ASSETS AND LIABILITIES. Assets— Cash in hand L 9 8s 6d ; subsidy due from Government, L 54 Is Id ; balances due on sale of hospital reserves, L 19 5; hospital buildings and laud, L 3.500 ; furniture and effects, £750 ; surgical instruments, drugs and stores, L 250 ; proportion of cost of sewerage works due by Palmerston Borough Council, L 294 13s 5d ; maintenance of patients, amount? recoverable, L 12 0; maintenance of childdren at Burnham Industrial school, recoverable, L 22. Total, L 5.195 Bs. Liabilities — Overdraft Colonial Bank, L 436 15s 3d ; contractor's deposits, L 26 ; outstanding accounts and salaries, L2so. Total, L 712 15s 3d. The balance sheet was adopted.
