THE DEFEAT OF SULLIVAN. THE COLONIES AND THE NAVY. (Per Press Association.) London, Sept. 11. In the sculling race between Harding and T. SuJlivan, tlie betting waa 11 to lO on Harding. Sullivan led half-way, but was then pumped out. Mr H. Armitage, of Victoria, in a letter to the Times, doubts whether the colonies will long continue the present subsides to the Australian squadron. It congratulates the Premier on the position in which he has placed the colony.
