London Wool Sales.

We are indebted to the Colonial Bank for the following report from their London agent, dated London, July 31st, 1895: — The fourth series of Colonial wool sales which opened here on the 2nd inst, was brought to a close on the 30th inst. The available total was about 390,000 bales, out of which 371,110 were cataloged (including 128,184 New Zealand growths), of this total about 360,000 were disposed of under the hammer, nearly 198,000 bales being taken for export, including 60,000 bales to America. The quantity held over until next series is about 34,000 bales, of which 24,000 had not been catalogued or offered at i auctions this series. The attendance ■ throughout has been exceedingly large and competition most keen. Prices close for medium and superior grease merinos about 10 to 15 per cent advance as com- : pared with last sales, and for the same ; descriptions of scoured about sto 10 tier cent advance. Superior fine crossbreds 10 to 15 percent and medium long greasy i crossbreds 15 to 20 per cent advance, inferior shabby parcels about 10 per cent, whilst scoured and slipe crossbreds only show an occasional advance of 5 per ; cent. Stimulated by the strong buying on the part of the U.S.A., and the steady demand of the Home trade, and the increased continental demand during the last week or so of the sales, prices close firmly at the highest point reached, as i quoted above. The fifth series of sales . will commence here on the 24th September, when all arrivals up to 4 p.m. on I that date will be available.
