A BIG BANKRUPTCY. THE GAMBLING VICE. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, Sept. 4. A private member has tabled a notice to introduce a Bill providing for the abolition of capital punishment. The sum of £174 has bpen subscribed for division among the Chinese crow of the ilifated Catteithun in recognition of the manner in which they acted in the endeavor to save life. Bergye and Brabbin, cattle exporters, have arranged to send toj London annually five thousand live cattle. Only Devons and Herefords will be exported. Dean who claimed £10,000, for injuries sustained in the Redfern railway accident was awarded A' 8245. Melbourne, Sept. 4. The Chairman of the Railway Commissioners advocates the floating of a 3 per cent loan to replace the 4 per cent railway loan. Recent heavy rains have exposed a 3-V foot seam of excellent coal near Cape Patterson, Gippsland. Three other seams ranging from two to 3| feet, have been struck, at a depth of fifty feet, in the same locality. A large area has been takeu up Henry Jennings, solicitor, has filed his schedule, with liabilities of i' 237,767, and assets .£59,541. A deputation from the Council of the Churches asked the Secretary to legislate for the suppression of the Sunday trading and gambling in tobacconists' shops. He replied that the Government intended to deal with both questions. The police had been instructed that betting must be stamped out in shops already suppressed, and a Bill be introduced to put down betting in the public streets. The champion greyhound Blackbird has died of inflammation. Adelaide, Sept. 3. !
