A man named Daniel Mcßride, aged 63, a manufacturer of sausage skins, was found drowned in the Heathcote this morning with his bands and feet tied to a Hat iron hung round his neck. His wife received a letter stating where his body would be found. At a special meeting of the Hospital Board to day, to consider the report on the recent enquiry, it was resolved to adopt Dr. Giles' recommendations wherever and whenever practicable. It was I decided to engage an assistant resident medical surgeon at a salary of £100 a year, to engage a housekeeper at a salary of £52 a year, and to ask Brown, dresser and chief wardsman, to send in his resignation before next meeting of the Board. The Board approved of the eight hour system of nursing provided it was found practicable. At the police Court today, P. C. Neill and R. S. Jiankin were charged with a breach of the Gaming and Lotteries Act, by offering a prize for the largest collection of coupons enclosed in packets of tea.
