O (Per Press Association.) Auckland, August 27. A man named Neil Joynt, aged 65, was found dead in bed at his lodgings. Deceased is said to be a brother of a wellknown solicitor at Christchurch and also of the ht-ad teacher of Nelson College. For the last six months he was in feeble health. Dunedin. August 27. At the inquest on Archibald McEwan, the jury returned a verdict that death was due to injuries received by a fall from Cox's Hotel at Outram, but no blame was attributable to the licensee or anyone connected with the hotel. The criminal sittings was concluded to daj'. Ah Wa, a Chinaman, was sent to goal for eighteen months for breaking into a store at MacCrae's. Thos. Me All, charged with robbery from the person, was acquitted. Sargoods have purchased the business of Robert Gray and Co., Sydney, the management of which is to be entrusted to F. G. Sargood and Spiers. Palmeeston N., August 27. Mr W. Park has, on accoant of illness in his family, resigned the office of Mayor, and Councillor W. T. Wood has been appointed Mayor for the remainder of the term. Wanganui, This Day. William Tracey, known as "Daddy"" died yesterday, aged 93. Wellington, This Day. The Board of Education passed a series of resolutions affirming the principle of the inspection of private schools by the Board officials.
