Destructive Fires.
(Per Press Association.) London, August 24. A seed and grain warehouse at the Hamburg I wharf, Black Friars, was burned. Damage is estimated at two hundred thousand pounds. Sydney, August 25. A fire at Walgett destroyed the Joint Stock Bank premises and four shops. Progress was only arrested by pulling down an adjacent house. This Day. A fire started in a battery at Woollangong while a strong wind was blowing, aud destroyed a block containing eleven wooden buildings, and spread across the street, and threatened to sweep the town, but it was fortunately checked in time. The only water available was that supplied by wells. Damage is put down at £10,000. Wellington, This Day. Price's sawmill, near Eketahuna, was destroyed by fire on Saturday night. It is believed accidentally. Hobart, August 24 The Giblin Memorial Hall, whiGh cost £4000 to build, and containing a valuable library, was completely destroyed by fire. The building was fully insured. Incen* diarism is suspected.
