Prison Reform.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, August 12. In consequence of a statement published about the rigorous treatment of youthful prisoners the Government obtained a report from their medical adviser, Professor Anderson Stuart, who says the evidence, on the whole, in favor of the present system. There is certainly no immediate need for alteration and not sufficient reason to consider it injurious to health or the development of the prisoners. The Government propose to carry out a suggestion of Dr. Stuart's that in order to set the matter at rest the weights of the prisoners will be taken in the next six months.
