Pohangina County Engineer's Report.
At the meeting of the Jfohangina Comity Council on Saturday, the Engineer's (Mr H. J. Hayns) report was read as read as follows : — The works generally are being pushed on. Contractors engaged by the Council have at the present time 39 men and two boys employed on various contracts. The roads in a number of places are breaking through to formation and these should have a coating of metal as soon as the weather improves. Awahou Riding. — He had partly prepared plan for Te Pohui bridge, and will call tenders for same by September meeting of the Council. Most of the slips have been removed and metalled roads are in a fair state of repair ; the contractor on No. 1 line is making good progress with his work. Mr GK Lyne has erected the bulk of the fences alongside the road diversion through his land. Tamaki riding.— Some slips havo J been cleared away and watertables I cleared out. The road through Forest Eeservo is in a fearful sloppy state, aud as soon as the weather is fine should be metalled. The Commissioner of Crown Lands has sanctioned the expenditure of Mr Phillpott's thirds amounting to about £55 on formation in front of Mr Phillpott's property. "With the permission of the Council he would stake out this work next week and call tenders for same, to be in by next meeting. Umutoi riding — He staked out and levelled the second sidling on the Umutoi road, and forwarded plan to Commissioner of Crown Lands for his approval. Ho had also written to Assistant Surveyor-General requesting that bush be felled on roads in Delaware Block and sidliDg formed down to Pohangina riyer. Mangapikopiko riding— Nothing more than general repairs have been done, in addition to Apiti drain. Coal Creek riding — Contractors are pushing on with, their contracts and doing the work in a satisfactory manner. The Colonial Treasurer having approved of an extra iUOOO loan for Apiti bridge he -would be busy preparing plans for this work during next month. He suggested that the reserve near the Oroua river be let by tender aud the proceeds placed away in a separate account for general repairs to the bridge. Pohangina riding — The new drain in township has relieved flood waters. Messrs Adsetfc aud Koberts havo done very little towards repairing the roads damaged by their heavy traffic, simply having raked in some loose earth into the ruts. Mangaouc riding— The drain through Mr Beuefield's has been made and will relieve the preek by Mr Palmer's of a quantity of water. A little patching was done, but it would be better left till weather was dry. The Ferry road is iv a bad state in several places.
