Anti-Chinese Movement.
(Per Press Association). Wellington, August 4. An anti-Chinese meeting was held last night. 'I here was a large attendance., and delegates from most of the locafUnions were present. Mr Fraser occupied the chair. Among the speakers was tho Hon. W. P. Reeves. Following resolutions were carried : — "That (his meeting: views witb alarm and dismay tbe lapid inroads made upon our social and moral life by Asiatic and other unsuitable immigrants, and therefore urgently re quests Government and members o c Parliament to push on thr U *h all its stages the Asiatic and other linmigra tion Restriction Bill, thereby preventing any further increiise of this terrible blot on our civilisation " " That in the opinion of tbis meeting it is imperative that no more letters of naturalisation be given to Asiatics, and that tho poll tax on such immi grants be raised to £100 " ■' That in order to successfully cops with this serious difficulty, the geueral public he asked not only to j')in the Anti-Chinese League, but also to steadfastly refrain froo purchasing goods from any Asiatic." " That tbo foregoing resolutions be forward od to tho Premier."
