(Per Press Association). Melbourne, August 4. The V.A.T.C. Winter Meeting ojKi.-i "<l at Caulfield yesterday. Tht principal event was the Grand Na tionai Hurdles, which resulted as fullows :— Rosestem (Brewer) 1, Favour (McClutchey) 2, Ripple (Robert son) 3. Twelve started Betting — ?. to 1 against Rosestem and Bischoff, £ to I Syllabus and Gratiano, 10 to I Ripple 12 to 1 Favour. On the fall ol tho flag Sylvan Prince and Gratiauc were in the van and thus the pah earned on the running for tho greatei part of the journey, but on lounding tbe turn for home Favour rushed to the front and led Ripple and Rosestem over the last obstacle. From this out a ding dong race ensued. I?o-es tern challenged >be leader gradually catchiug bim just managed to squeeze home by a neck, Ripplo pulled up ten lengths away. Time, 4min 27-^sec.
