Choral Festival.

A choral festival was held in St. John's Churcb last evening, the church being crowded. The service started with the male choristers entering from the west door, and all singing " Onward Christian Soldiers." The Rev. Innes Jones acted as precentor, and the Revs. Young and Hunt (of Palmerston), were the lectors. The responses taken were Tallis' Festival Magnificat audNunc Dimittis (Tours iv F), anthem, The Radient Morn | (Woodward) Te Duem (Dykes in F), the Sevenfold Amen. During the offertory hymn 437 was sung. The Rev. H. F. Hunt preached a very impressive sermon. After the blessing had been pronounced by Archdeacon Toogood, the service was concluded by singing hymn 393. The choir, which consisted of over sixty voices, included about thirty from Palmerston and fifteen from Marton. Mr Mather of Marion, acted as conductor and Mr Drew of Palmerston

presided at the organ.
