The Murder of M. Stambouloff.
DISGRACEFUL SCENES AT THE FUNERAL. (Per Press Association.) Sofia, July 20. Three arrests have been made in connection with the murder of M. Stambouloff. One of the prisoners, Georgereff, has been recognised as the assassin. All are said to be friends of the late Major Panitza. The Emperor of Austria has sent a message of condolence to M, Stamboilloff's widow. The Czar of Russia has given the Bulgarian ambassadors a warm reception, and has promised that Bulgaria shall have Russian protection. Owing to M. Stainbouloff's family refusing Prince Ferdinand's sympathy, the latter has wired from Carlsbad ordering all State officials to he absent from the funeral. It is expected that trouble will take place while the cortege is passing through the streets. July 21Disgraceful scenes occurred at M. Starnbonloff's funeral. The representatives of all the Diplomatic Corps attended. When the cortege reached the spot where the ex- Premier was murdered, a cry was raised of " Run for your lives," and the mourners fled in all directions, trampling down the children who were carrying wreaths. A crowd of the dead man's enemies and Panitza's friends barred the way, and the cavalry had to be employed to disperse them. It was impossible to conduct the usual prayers at the grave, and the body was lowered to its last resting place amidst hoots and hurrahs from the mob.
