• (Per Press Association.) London, July 15. At the meeting at Manchester Mr Nelson said he had agreed to proceed with the cold stores immediately. Bethells, steamship owners, have the entire machinery to develop the direct trade complete, and begin in a few weeks. Sir W. Houldsworth declared thafc the beginning of the imports direct from the colonies would mark an era in the Manchester shipping and would result in the supply .of teeming millions in future with the colonial produce without outside help. Mr Reuben Spencer, Vice-President of the associated Chambers of Commerce, and Mr Roberts, on behalf of the Municipal Cold Stores Committee, strongly approved of the scheme, and thanked Mr Nelson for the paper he had read.
