Trade With Manchester.
Ifeb pbess association.! London, July 18. Mr Hotson, of Victoria, says he has become convinced of the immediate prospect of sound and extensive business in Australian produce shipped direct to Manchester. The fact that exporters are determined to open a regular trade with Manchester and Glasgow, where it will reach the" immense working class population is, he mentions, undoubted in Australia. Vessels would take Manchester goods to Australia on the eastward trip, and any movement to establish a line of steamers between Australia and Manchester would meet with a hearty response if the Australian Government would guarantee shipments of the best classes of frozen meat, cattle, wool, tallow and bnttefl He believes that if the duties on Manchester goods are the only obstacle in opening up a direct trade the Victorian Government would see its way to abolish those on Manchester goods. He calculates that wool can bo landed from Australia at the manufacturing districts at £1 per I ton cheaper by the Manchester route than by the present. He suggests that a committee of Manchester merchants | should confer with Australian exporters through responsible delegates. ;
