Public Meeting at Christchurch.

[Per Press Association.) Chbistchxjrch, July 12. A meeting called to express indignation with certain statements lately made by members of the Prohibition party was held at the Opera House tonight. There was a crowded attendance. There was much interruption, and feeling ran high. The following resolutions were declared carried : — (1) Resenting the untrue, unwarrantable, and cowardly imputation cast on Mr W. W. Colllins, M.ir.R., for this city, by a prominent Prohibitionist, assuring Mr Collins of sympathy and recognising Mr Collins as a consistent politician, and that his public and private life is and has been above reproach ; (2) That the representatives of the city be requested to draw the attention of the Minister of Justice to the statement mtide by the Prohibition leader to the following effect : — " It appears that Inspector Brohani's eyesight is affected by the fumes of liquor, and he cannot see when lie gets near a pub."
