A Junior Cup match was played on the Oval yesterday afternoon between the Red Stars and Palmerston 11, and resulted in favor of the local team by nine points to five. From the kick off the Red Stars went to work and, with the wind in their fayor, had things almost all their own way in the first spell. Within the first five minutes Martin scored a try for the Red Stars, and shortly after A. Foster scored a second try for his side, n ither of which were converted. From this to the end of the spell there was no further scoring, but the visitors were forced down several times. Hav itg such an advantage in the first spell, the Reel Stars evidently held their opponents too " cheap," for a few minutes after starting the scond spell Wickens scored a try for Pal merston, which Clarkion converted. From this play was very even, and amusing to the spectators from the slippery nature of the ground. Towards the end of the spell Foster again scored a try. Mr A. Richards acted aa reforee, and Messrs Matraver's : nd Hamilton as line umpires. The match Pirate 11. v. Feilding 11, played on the Palmerston Showground yesterday, resulted in a win for the local team by 3 points to nil. The grouud was very sloppy and the play consequently was not of an interesting degcr.ption. During the first spell Slatteiy, for the Pirates, secured a try, which, however, he failed to convert. The following team has been selected to represent the Pirates in the senior mutch against Feilding next Saturday : — Full-back, Luxford ; three-quarters, Rickards, McMinn and Rock ley ; five eights, Robinson; half, J. Rush ; wings, Perrin and Evans ; forwards, Raneka, Rush, Smith, E. Nash, Newth, Bedfoid, Thompson, Emergencies — De Blois, Aldridge, F. Lyous, Henderson and Slattery. By a typographical error the name of: Mr P. (iieseu was omitted from the list of players of the Feilding Football team published in ye&terday's issue ia their match against the Pirates on the Oval on Saturday. Mr A C. Matlieson has been appointed referee for the Pirates v. Keiiding match to be played at Feilding on baturdfiy.
