The bridge over the Oroua at Awahuri i.s 6(57 feet long. Mr H. Sanson, of Campbelltown, was a visitor to Feilding yesterday. Tliere was a keen frost tbis morning, aud the ice was thick in water buckets left outside. The public aro invited to tbo social to be held to-night in tbe Primitiye Methodist Church. Tbis is what is known as " the sbortest day," so x^oople have made the turning to- wards Christmas. Judgment has been reserved iv the case of J. Colter v. R. Ross claim £'150, heard at the Wauganui S.M. Court. The Hon W. McCullough will move the Addrcss-in-Rcply in the Legislative Council and the Hon W. C. Walker will second it. The inward 'Frisco mail is due in Wellington on Saturday. The next outward 'Frisco mail leaves Wellington on llth July. Mr J. R. Montague, the well known auctioneer has left for a holiday trip to New South Wales, aud will be absent for about six weeks. The Manchester Rifles will parade this evening for inspection in the Assembly Rooms. All future parades will be held in tho new Volunteer Hall in Stafford street. The Endymion Hotel, at Awahuri, is advertised for sale, and possession can be giveu at once. This is a splendid opportunity for a good business man, with a small capital, to ensure a competency for life. Among the most important of tho nicasures^io be introduced bj' the Government 'during the coming session will be the Eating on Unimproved Lauds Rill, Local Government Bill, and the Tariff Reform Bill. The following candidates have successfully passed the dental examinations at Dunedin :— W. H. Wright, C. Moses, G. H. Bridgman and H. W. Frost, Auckland ; W. A. Squires, Nelson ; W. Chick and C. J. Coombs, Duuedin ; S. G. Hall and D. H. Jennings, Invercargill. Mr McKerrow, Land Purcliase Commission, inspected the Carnarvon estate a few days ago with Mr Wilson, M.H.R,, and it is probable the Laud Purchase Board will send a valuer up to value tlie laud witb a view to purchasing it from the Bank of New Zealand Assets Company. Ross, Esq., at Cokcic*}', near Marton, of farm stock and implements, on tbc 23rd instant. Owing to tbe state of the roads the mail coach for Pemberton and Rangiwahia will, dnring the winter months, leave Fowlers at 11 80 a.m. instead of at 1 p.m. The business men in Feilding are coming to an arrangement to close their respective establishments on Saturday nights at niue o'clock during the winter mouths. A meetiug is to-be held at Campbelltown on Wednesday, the 26th instant, for the purpose of urgiug the Government to throw open the Carnarvon estate for settlement. A great unreserved sale of seasoned timber will be held at Messrs Stevens and Wood's mill, Awahuri, on Wednesday the 26th instant at noon. See advertisement. Among other items we draw special attention to a line of five Jersey-Ayrshire springiug heifers from the well knowu herd of Mr J. Phillips, Kimboltou road. Lovers of good sport aud good exercise will be glad to kuow that the Excelsior Skating Rink, will open iv the Assembly Rooms ou Saturday next aud will be continued throughont the season on each Wednesday and Saturday evenings and Wednesday afternoons. The charges are reasonable and within the means of everyone. We arc pleased to note that the prices of stock have considerably improved l'tcly. At the three stock sales held in om* homed ate vie : nity, viz., Feilding, Colyton and Awahuri there have beeu marked improvements in the prices of all classes of stock submitted for sale. This is cheering news for farmers — in fact for all of vs — as we are all, more or less, depending on the farming interests. The Wangauui Herald learns that on arrival of the mail train last Tuesday au attempt was made to burglarise the Normanby Railwaj* Station on Monday night. The thief first entered the stationmastcr's house, and ransacked a pair of trousers ostensibly to discover the keys of the statiousafe, but was fortunately unsuccessful. He then broke into the station, but being unable to gain access to the safe no loss resulted from bis intrusion. Bunting the local members of the New Zealand Rifle Association, waited on the member for Palmerston yesterday and asked if be would support the .£250 grant annually allowed by the Government, which it bad been proposed to take away. Mr Pirani said he would certainly be in favor of continuing the grant as he considered it desirable that New Zealand marksmen should receive some encouragement to induce tbem to become proficient shots. Mr Carr beld a very successful sale of stock and sundries at tbe Endymion Hotel, Awahuri, yesterday. There was a large attendance. Numbers of people came with tbe expectation tbat tbe furniture of tbe botel would have been sold. The auctioneer explained prior to commencing the sale that arrangements bad been made the previous day between the landlord and tennant aud tbe furniture was withdrawn from tbe sale. He was sorry that he bad not received intimation in time to not'fy through the papers that such arrangements had been made.
