WHITE PINE TIMBER

Fon some time the good news marking tbe turn of tbe tide has invariably been in favor of the farmers, botb agricultural and pastoral ; but now the sawmillers bave come in for a share. By a telegram from Wellington we were told yesterday that Mr Fieyberg, the timber expert now in London, in bis report dated May 3rd, wrote as follows : " From _ several sources I hear that our white pine seems to hayo taken the taste of the Manchester and Birmingham people, and brokers in London are enquiring for it ; therefore ifc is satisfactory to note that some is included in the Rangitikei shipment." But, for the sawmillers to reap the fullest advantage from lhis opening, it will first be absolutely necessary for the railway charges on white pine to bo reduced. If that were done protnply we knorv tbat the work of cutting would be put in band at once, and hundreds of mon who now cannot find a day's work would bo given' continuous remunerative employment.
