The Cromwell Statue.

o (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) London, June 18. In Committee of Supply Mr Justin McCarthy moved to eliminate tbe vote for the Cromwell statue. He said it was au insult to tbe Irish people, who regarded Cromwell as a most determined and ruthless eneruy. Mr John Morley, Chief Secretary for Ireland, in reply, said tbe debate showed tbat the demand for tbe erection of tbe statue was not a truly national one, and therefore he consented to strike the vote oft the Estimates. June 19. The Daily Chronicle appeals to the public to subscribe funds for a statue to Cromwell, which tbe Government bas decided not to erect.
