Manawatu County Council.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held on Wednesday. Present — Crs Ransom (chair), Hammond, Taylor, Robinson, and Wilson. The minutes of previous meeting were read confirmed. The following correspondence was dealt with : — From D. McKenzie, re large stones on Bulls Feilding road, near Mr Wilson's woolshed. — Resolved that the matter be attended to. From the Colonial Treasurer, advising that £250, the amount of loan for protection works on the Oroua river bank at Feilding, had been remitted to the credit of the Council. From same, advising £1500, amount of loan for repairs at Awahuri bridge, bad also been remitted to Council's credit From 0. Bray, re extra work on tho Oroua river piotection works. From the Secretary of New Zealand Counties Association requesting payment of annual subscription. From Colonial Secretary's Department, re the proposed new name for Campbelltown, and stating that as there is already a post office named Kapuni it is alvisable that another name should be selected. Proposed by Cr Hammond, seconded by Cr Wilson, That the new metal on portion on McDonnell's line be closed for heavy traffic for three months from this date.— Carried. Proposed by Or Wilson, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the letting of the extra piles in the protective works on the Oroua river be left to Mr Bray, to tho extent of £30. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Hammond, That tbis Council agree with resolutions passed at the public meeting of ratepayers at Stratford, re taxing unimproved value and that the member for the district be requested to support such — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Ransom, That Ratana or Raagatea be submitted to the Colonial Secretary as a suitable name in lieu of Campbelltown. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Hammond, That the estimate for tbe year 1895-96, as read by the Chairman, be passed. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Taylor, seconded by Cr Robinson, That £150 be transferred from the General Account to credit of the Carnarvon riding account, as agreed to — Carried. Proposed by Cr Ransom, seconded by Cr Hammond, That notice be given that it is the intention of this Council, at a special meeting to be held on the 1 0th July, 1895, to strike a general County rate of Ad in tho £ on the rateable value of all the rateable property in the Manawatu County for tbe year ending March 31st, 1896, and that the same shall be payable in one sum at the County Office, Sanson, on July 14th, 1895. -Carried. The pay-sheet as read having been passed for payment the Council adjourned.
