Po hangina County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was hetd at their offices, Pohangina, on Saturday afternoon. Prosent— Crs. H. Dickin (chairman), W. Vicary, a. Wagstaff, 0. Selby, K. W- Browne, H. Homer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt witn as follows : — From Lands and Suiyey Department stating section 108, Block XVI, Apiti, had been vested in Council, also, stating £100 has been granted by Government for metalling portion of road through Pohangina Valley Forest Reserve. From H. Tolley, asking perinissiou to fell bush on road Hue opposite section 32, Block 12, Apiti ; also asking that settlers should not be charged exchange on cheques. — Permission granted to fell bush. From Browne Bros, applying for payment of account for bush tolling. From District Laud and Survey Office, stating the money available for loading couli oily be spent in the Delaware Small Farm Association Block, but if the County would contribute towards e'earing tb.9 road from Pohangina river into the Block the Surveyor General would apply for subsidy. From C. G. Culling, asking the Council to repair his drny which was broken while being used by one of the Council's employes — Engineer to arrange. From P, McConnell, Apiti, desiring a road be clearad to his town sections 149, 150 and 152. — Granted perinia siou to fell raad line. From E. C. Greet 1 , Ashurst, asking permission to fell road line opposite section 3, Block 11, Gorge curvey District. — Granted. From Mary E Rea asking to have her name placed on rate roll f(T section 163, Apiti, iv place of J. S. Rea. From Baker and Cooke, solicitors for Mr Skerman, asking that his name bo removed from rate roll and that of Geanye be substituted — Clerk to in form them that both parties must consent before roll ia altered. From Mrs M. Pjince asking that Mrs E. R. Cawood's name be placed on rate roll for section in Coal Creek. From Department Lands and Survey, warrant authorising erection of Apiti bridge. From J. H. Hank ins, legal opinion ro rate on loan of £3394. From E. F. Eagar, Apiti, caliing atteution to the bad state of the rcai between the store and his hotel. Fom John Curran, applying for pa3'inent for felling bush on road line From Kiwitea County Council, account for repair of Onepuhi bridge, this Council's proportion being £38 4s Bd. From C. Lucas, J. F. Smithson, and H. Pearce, Pohangina, asking that Kiwi street be made. — Matter will be seen to as soon as loan money available. From M. M. Scott, asking that his name be placed on rate roll for section 8, Block XT, Coal creek, in place of Mary Bell. — Agreed to. From A. H. Tompkins, attachment order against money due to Messrs Dermott and Goodwin. From A. E. Terry, asking permission to fell road line opposite section 6, Block X, Wanganui Harbor Board Block. — Granted. From H. T. Jamieson, stating sections in Pohangina township for which he was ratel did not belong to him. From T. Greenhow, Collinson, and Crozier, asking that their thirds be hypothecated to pay interest on loan of £4900.— Already hypothecated. From Hohepa Haniora, asking the Council to stop payraeni of .£6 Bs, alleged to be due to him from a contractor. From A. Hopkirk, account for £6 12s for bushfelling. From J. M'Kenzie, account for bushfellig. — To be paid when the Council is in funds. From Treasury, voucher £4 2s 6d, contribution towards cost of licensing election ; also, voucher for £225, final grant for Pohangina Valley forest reserve road ; also, that application for for £950, for construction of roads in Taoiaki riding, had been granted conditionally ; also, that application for a loan of £1750, for construction of roads in the Pohangina riding, had been provisionally approved ; also, £300 loan for construction of a road in the Kiwitea County ; also, that the application for a loan of £4900, for construction of roads in the Coal creek riding, could not be approved of until after March 3 1st next, as loans to the amount of £6000 had already been provisionally approved. From A. E. Welsh, asking that the bridge across drain near his resi dence be re-erected. — Engineer to fill in the drain sufficient for dray traffic. From -T. Sinclair, C. Cunie, and nineteen others asking that a suitable ■ site be selected in Pohangina town- j ship as a cemetery as section 10 was unsuitable. From R. Bugg asking that the name of W. Stretton be placed on rate roll in place of his. — To bo iuforined Stretton's consent is required. The Engineer, Mr H. J. Hayns, reported : Awahou riding — The roads generally are in very fair order. Messrs Horn and Co. have finished their contract of metalling No. 3 line ; he (the Engineer) had staked out the proposed deviation of road through Mr G. Lyne's property ; the poll of ratepayers for loan to finish all roads iv this riding was carried ; the bridge on Main road south, near Mr W. | Hensen's property should be repaired, as cavt traffic was entirely cut off. He suggested that a 30ft span bridge be built and the timber in present bridge used as far as it will go. Tamaki riding — He inspected both McDertnott's and Hirst and Co.'s contracts ; on both a small amount of work must be done to finish same ; most of the slips were cleared in this riding; he had arranged with E. F. Charles to repair collapsed culvert Umutoi riding — The only work being clone (except co-operative work) is sowing the roads with grass see:!. Mangaone riding. — The roads are in fair order ; a new (op is wanted on culvert on Ferry road, and drain must be cleared out at once ; the drains at the head of the township have Lean cut ; the drains near Mr Curran's property have beeu cleared. He had inspected Mr Rou berg's iropnvy, re water flowing on to his land and doing certain damage, and thought the culvert did not lead more water ou to his laud than flowed there originally.
Coal Creek riding — He had staked out and levelled three miles of London's road and one and three-quarter miles of Main Ridge road. Goodwin had completed his contract on Terrace road ; the formation on London's road and Main Ridge road would be done better and for less money if held over for three or four months, when the metal could then be put on straight away. Mangapikopiko riding —He had staked out almost eighty-five chains of drain on side of Apiti main road and called tenders for same. The roads generally were in good order, and he intended to prepare plans and call tenders for Nix road, and for about two hundred yards of metal for Apiti Main road. Crs Brown and Selby, and the Engineer, reported that they had inspected the drain near Mr Palmer's store, and concluded that it would be better to lead the storm water through Mr Benefield's property. Resolved, That this Council take necessary steps to have the present cemetery reserve vested in the Council, and that a committee consisting of Crs Dickin, Selby, and Wagstaff be appointed to select a suitable site near the township and have the same made suitable for the purpose.
