o A meeting of creditors in the estate of Bridget Millard, storekeeper late of Waituna, a bankrupt, was held in tlie Feild- , ing Court House on Thursday afternoon. Mr G. J. Scott, D.0. A., presided. There weve Di*esent the debtor and her solicitor (Mr J. P. Innes), J. R. Montague £90 lis ld (also representing J. Bett, £20 llsGd), W. Hodren Mi 13s 4d, Mrs Bilderbeck k.21 10?-, L E. Reade as proxy for J. Ransom and Son £5 6s, Wm. Millard £209 10s, A. Richmond representing Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond (£5 4s lOd). and W. F. Elkington (£27 lis), and J. Prior. Mr J. 11. Hankins appeared for the D.O. A. Proofs of debt were also sent in by A. Cavanagh, L 8 ; W. Bell, L 3 19s 3d ; D. Younger, Ll ~>s ; Gilmonr, Younghusband and Co, Ll4 ls 6d ; W. McArthur and Co. L 205 13s ld. Total claims LG'27 17s ld, in addition to this there are other claims which have not yet bec-n proved. The amount of debts as sworn to by debtor when petition of insolvency was filed was L:182 5s Gd ani assets L3l0 — monies in the hands ofthe Imperial Insurance Company, Wellington, (subject to payment of costs). In reply to Mr Il^nkms debtor said : She formerly carried on business as storekeeper and boardingbouse-kecper at Waituna; tlie premises wero destroyed by fire on August 20, 1594 ; her stock was insured for L4OO and furniture for LIOO in the Imperial Fire Ofiice ,* everything was destroyed ; took most of h«=r stock to Waituna ; Mr Can* sold some of her stock nt Halcombe by auction, which resulted in his handing her a cheque for L 7 and some shillings : had no record ofthe book debts which were due to her; sold out the Fordell business for LllOO three years ago ; this was spent in opening at Ohingaiti in her husband's name ; paid LIOOO for stock, L-100 for land, and L2OO for building ; could neither read nor write ; did not keep an account of the money borrowed fiom her brother-in-law ; all her documents were destroyed in the Waituna fire. To Mr Innis : She was living apart from her husband and maintaining herself and family. It was resolved on the motion of Mr Innes (as proxy for W Millard), seconded by Mrs Bilderbeck, That Mrs Millard, the bankrupt, be allowed L 25 out of the assets of the estate for tlie purpose of purchasing furniture for herself and children. The meeting then adjourned.
