Lower Gorge Bridge.
A conference of representatives of local bodies was held in Palmerston on Thursday to discuss tbe question of tbe reconstruction of tbe lower Gorge bridge. There were present — Messrs Lethbridge (Manchester Road Board), | AVhibcoii#be and Bolton (Pahiatua County Council), Haggen (Woodville Borough Council), Park (Palmerston Borough Council), and Wallis (Fitzherbert Road Board). Mr Lethbridge was voted to tbe chair. After some discussion, it was resolved that a deputation consisting of the delegates present, with Mr Cotter, wait on the Government with a request that the road and bridges be taken over and maintained in tlie same way as is the Otira bridge, and that Captain Russell, Messrs C. Hall, F. Pirani, J. Stevens, J. G. Wilson, M's.H.R., be requested to assist the deputation. Messrs Whitcombe, Park, Haggen, Bolton, and Wallis were opposed to tbe bodies they represented having to pay a portion of the cost of reconstruction of the bridge.

A meeting of ratepayers at Fitzherbert last evening appointed a deputation to request the Government to construct ' a bridge over tho Manawatu river to j connect in a straight line with tbe ( Palmerston aud Pahiatua roads, and finish the construction of the road to j Pahiatua. A deputation was also appointed to request the Government to re-erect and maintain the Gorge bridge.
