Prohibition League.
A meeting of members of the Prohibition League was heldin the vestry of the Primitive Methodist Church on Thursday evening, the Rev. J. Cocker presiding. Messrs W. Gr. Shearer and J. C. Thompson were appointed to represent the body at the Temperance Convention. A resolution was passed approving of the proposal to hold a Colonial Temperance Convention in Wellington early in July, with a view to bringing pressure to bear on Parliament in the direction of improving the liquor laws of the colony. It was also resolved, That the Palmersston Convention be informed that this meeting is of opinion all hotels should be closed on the day of election of Members to the House of Representatives and on Licensing Committee election day. Resolved, That, as according "to the explanation given by Lieutenant Thomson he was under the impression that an invitation to a free lunch had been given to his corps at Easter, the cheque received from tho Lieutenant of the Hawera Mounted Rifles in pa}'meufc thereof be now returned. The balance-sheet of the Easter Demonstration Committee was read, showing a deficit of £2 2s 2d, owing to the floods which occurred preventing tbe affair being carried to a successful issue. The total expenditure was £18 2s 3d, and receipts £16 ( 6d (includiug £1 handed in by Mr F. Bmy, being a subscription collected amongst the 1.0. G.T. delegates at thoir quarterly meeting held at Sandon on Wednesday last).
