The holders of New Plymouth Harbor Board bonds have induced a section of brokers to petition the Sock Exchange not to quote New Zealand 3 per cent, stock. At a meeting of the Otago nnd Southland Investment Company, Mr James Jackson, who presided said the last debenture issue by the company resulted in £92.000 being subscribed. £265,000 worth of debentures expired in the year and these would be renewed at 63, the remainder being paid. The Employers' Union has resolved that any interference by Government in the matter of wages, either as to a fixed minimum or any other scale, is detrimental to the interests of both employers and employed. Sir William Harcourt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, addressing a meeting in the City, appealed to the experience of fifty years in favor of a gold standard, and said the Government would never fayor bi-mctallism on any conditions. The directors of the United States mint have increased the gold output, especially of Australian gold, and disposed of the coutentiou of supporters of silver as to the insufficiency of gold. BERLIN, May 23. Tbc Reichstag has approved a Bill to abolish slave trading in the territory in Africa over which Germany has placed a protectorate.
