Annual Sunday School Picnic at Kiwitea.
O' .- [feom oue own cobbespondent. { Notwithstanding the dull day on Friday last a good number of people turned out to the above picnic, which was held in Mr Gibson's grounds and altogether a most enjoyable day was spent. The spread was a most sumptuous one, and, above all, the tea was really good. Games were indulged in, and. after a few hours enjoyably spent in this manner, an adjournment was made for tea, but not " under the shadow of the chestnut tree." Special thanks are due to the ladies who provided the eatables • also to all of those who were so assiduous in seeing that the needs of all were supplied—none being overlooked. At the close of the festivities a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Gibson for the use of his picture e que grounds. All the leading families of the district were there or represented. As a'finale to the .day's outing the annual concert was held in the Hall the building being well filled. Mr W. Jones, of Cheltenham, occuoied the chair and said he was always glad to assist in any good work, and he believed that the time had armed to build a new hall. The present one has done duty for years, and now with the onward march of this district it is not suitable. Mies Hitch opened the concert by playing a march on the. organ. Mrs Church treated the audience to "He wipes away every tear." Mr H. Moss gave the recitation, " Carl the martyr." This is this gentleman's masterpiece. On the whole it was very creditably given. The beginning was, however, delivered too hurriedly, and in parts was wanting in foice. Song, Mrs Palmer; song, "Suneet tree,' Miss Laing; song, Miss Kilgour; address, Mr Anyon ; song, " Charity," Mies Amy Richardson ; song,' " The golden shore," Mrs Church ; song, "Under the willow she's sleeping," Miss Perry ; song, Miss Tappin ; song, Miss A. Richardson ; song, "The b tter land," Miss Laing. A short address was givon by the Rev. T. R. Richards. The proceeds amounted to £3 odd, which is to be devoted towards reducing the debt on the Birmingham Church. Mis Palmer and Miss Hitch played the accotniu a pleasing manner.
