_ » — Ifeb peess association.! Melbourne, April 10. A private detective has given evidence in the Downie libel action to the effect Mx&t plaintiff asked him to make two *Wficers of the Public Works Department drunk in order to allow him to get possession of certain papers, but witness refused. The Government architect asserted that plaintiff was refused particulars from a dairy which was subsequently missing, but at the arbitration proceedings a letter press page of this dairy was produced by the plaintiff.
