Railway Freights.
FURTHER REDUCTIONS DECIDED UPON. After due enquiry and consideration the Government haj"e resolved to carry their revision of the railway tariff a stage further by making a reduction equal to 20 per cGnt. in tho rates for the carriage of firewood, posts and rails, lime for agricultural purposes, limestone, animal manures and scrap iron. Since the beginning of the year and the I change of regime a great deal hag been done in the direction of popularising the railways. The sheep freights have been 1 lowered, school excursions have been encouraged in every part of the colony by the introduction of a system of special rates much lower than were offered before, and now further concessions are being made which cannot fail to be highly appreciated by [he farming community, while at the same time the railway revenue is not likely to sutler. — Times.
