Bowling Club.

— ■ ■♦ A meeting of the above was held in Mr E. Gie^en's office last evening-, there being- present — Messrs W. G. Haybittle (in the chair), A. R. Allan, K. J. Allen, H. Basting:*, C. Bray 'junr.), W. Carthew, H. W. Davy, W. Light, R. Mills, H. Lv Sherwill, J. Scott, G. Saywell, and P. 'fhomson. The minutes of the previous meating- were read and confirmed. J'he report of the Finance Committee was read as follows : — " Your committee discussed the financial aspect, and came to the conclusion that it was inexpedient to raise the money the Bowling 1 Club required for the improvements of their ground, excepting- by way of debentures. , These could be for £l each, bearing interest at 5 per cent,, and having a currency ot five years, to be taken up by the members of the club or their friends-. Your committee are distinctly against a bank overdraft, for which only a few members would be responsible." Mr Sherwill mentioned that he and Mr Bailey visited the Wanganui Bowling- Club's ground while in that town recently. It was a beautiful green, 240 x 120 feet, with every convenience, which cost between £500 and £600 ; it cost 30s per week to keep ifc in order, and the annual subscription was 30s. A ground half that size would suffice for Feilding. If they wanted the club to be a success they must put their shoulders to the wheel, and put the money down, as they could do nothing without it. Mr Haybittle thought better not to do anything in' the way of debentures until it was seen how many members were likely to join. Mr Bastings thought it was a wrong idea to take up debentures. He also thought that members should come forward and pay up their subscriptions, and not wait to be canvassed. He would suggest that post cards be sent to all members calling a meeting, so that a final effort could be made to do something. It was resolved that the names of Messrs Bastings and Mills be added to that of the previous canvassing committee to procure subscriptions, and that the committee report at a meeting to be held at the same place on Tuesday evening, the 9fch inst. Resolved, '1 hat the report of the Finance Committee be held over for discussion at the next meeting-. Resolved, That the Secretary get 100 post cards printed for calling* meetings. A. vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting*.
