(Per Press Association). London, March 13. In the House of Commons Mr E. Robertson, member for Dundee, said the British Naval Estimates had increased 50 per cent during the last decade, while the tonnage of vessels had doubled. Paris, March 14. Replying to a question in the Chamber of Deputies, Admiral Besnard, Minister of Marine, said it was the intention of the Government to build a number of smaller ironclads of very fast speed. The opening of the Baltic Canal would give Germany ready access to the North Sea, and consequently France required a strong and compact fleet in the Channel.
