At the inquest on Edward Lennan, compositor, who hung himself on a hat peg at the Kohukohu Hotel, a verdict was returned that deceased committed Buicide while temporarily insane. He had been drinking some days previously. He was a native of Belfast, and had attempted suicide in the Hokianga district four years ago. lt is yet premature to forecast the result of Lady Augusta Boyle's injuries. The doctors hope that her foot may be saved, but in that case there must be a stiff joint. Owing to mortification setting in the skin and bruised tissues a painful operation had to be performed. Eleven hundred school children came from Waikato by special excursion train to day. A number visited the warships, At a meeting of the City Council, the Mayor contradicted the statement of the Premier with regard to the Asylum fire. Wellington, March 15. The death is announced of Mr William Wittem, well-known as principal of the lato firm of WhittQm, Nicholson and Co., general merchants. He was a citizen oi nearly forty years' standing. Dunedin, March 15. The death is announced of Mr John Hartley Jenkinson, an old identity, and father ofthe Hon E. Jenkinson, M.L.C. Deceased was in the early days jettykeeper, at Dunedin and then store-keeper and afterwards took to farming in the Clutha district.
